Ryier Hommy is the Town of Beaverlodge’s newest councillor.

Hommy snagged 128 votes* in Tuesday’s byelection, ahead of Lindsey Hole with 101 and David MacDonald with 10.

Beaverlodge Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Jeff Johnston told the News Tuesday night he hoped to arrange for Hommy to be sworn in before the next regular meeting of council on Monday.

A business development manager for a local company, Ryier Hommy campaigned on a platform of residential and industrial development as a top priority.

“We need to bring new solid revenue streams to ensure we don’t have more tax increases and we’re able to do the things like walkways, road rehabilitation programs, and other projects that align with the town’s strategic plan,” Hommy said.

“In order to grow and to remain sustainable we need to make sure we have our priorities like water and sewer taken care of,” he stated in an interview with the News during his campaign.

“We have an aging infrastructure that we need to address and we will not be able to grow as a town and attract residents or businesses with a failing system.”

Community engagement is also a high priority for Hommy, who said events such as the Art Walk and the Easter event put on by the Beaverlodge Firefighters Association are crucial for the community to build an ecosystem of support for residents and businesses.

Hommy promised to communicate and engage with the public.

The seat at the Beaverlodge council table was available after Gena Jones resigned earlier this year.
