Miniatures are out, and wall-sized pieces are in! Another beautiful exhibit is on display at the Beaverlodge Art & Culture Centre.
After 32 years, the Quilt Show continues to attract visitors from all across the Peace Country. This annual exhibit typically draws in the most visitors to the Art & Culture Centre, often with groups booking their visit with us in advance.
Whether you’re an experienced quilter, new to the art form, or just someone who appreciates the beauty of the pieces, the 2025 Quilt Show will not disappoint. The quilters have put together a door prize draw for guests to enter, with the opportunity to vote for your favorite quilt. I guarantee choosing one favourite will be a difficult task as there are more than 50 incredible pieces.
For this annual exhibit to happen, a group of local quilters volunteer and take the time to promote this exhibit throughout the Peace region. They also take charge on set up day, which is no small feat. Like a well-oiled machine, helpful husbands in tow, they set up display racks in the Main Gallery, hung and labelled all the quilted items throughout the building, and were cleaned up, enjoying a cup of tea, before noon. It takes a lot of dedication and support to install the Quilt Show each year, and we are grateful that they continue to do so.
On opening day, quilter and BACS volunteer, Mavis Fimrite, welcomed guests on behalf of all the exhibit participants. She spoke about how quilting is a form of functional art and has existed for centuries.
Quilts are works of art that tell stories and allow the makers to express themselves.
Love is a common feeling, especially when you listen to what inspired the quilter to make the piece.
Sometimes it’s to commemorate a wedding, celebrate the love of a grandchild, or piece together memories of the life of a loved one. Each quilt is incredibly special.
Most of the items in the Quilt Show are not-for-sale as they were intentionally made as a gift for someone else. We are honored to offer space to share these incredible pieces with our visitors each year.
Many participants have also made and brought in other functional pieces of quilted art that are for sale, such as placemats, hot pads, blankets, and even journal covers.
Their work often inspires many to learn more about the artform. Maybe that newly inspired quilter will have something on display in next year's exhibit.
The Quilt Show is open until Thursday, April 24 at noon. The Mini Gallery Quilt exhibit has been sponsored again this year by Acuity Eye Care.
Raffle a success
Our first-ever beef raffle was a huge success! Many thanks to Rafter MB Cattle Co. and Alberta Select Meats for donating the half-beef, cut and wrapped, and making this fundraiser possible.
We raised over $5,300 to use for enhancements at the Art & Culture Centre. Congratulations go to Anna Leman who was the lucky winner.
Tourism season has officially begun. We are excited to have had our first few travellers stop by on their way north to Alaska.
Our first tourist was someone who has made this trip many times and always has Beaverlodge and the Art & Culture Centre on their stop list.
We are looking forward to hosting the many different people from all over the world and sharing with them about our beautiful community.
We encourage everyone to make the Art & Culture Centre a place to visit.
We invite everyone to visit the Beaverlodge Art and Culture Centre. Take in the exhibits, peruse our gift shop, and stay for refreshments in our Tea Room. Everyone is welcome.
With appreciation, BACS acknowledges the financial support of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts for its art and cultural activities.
