The County of Grande Prairie is removing its fire ban at 5 p.m. today (June 14).
The ban has been replaced with a fire restriction and is in place for the entire county, along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley.
Recent and forecasted rainfall has allowed the ban to be moved to a restriction still, the county says residents need to practice extreme caution this year.
“Conditions can change very rapidly during fire season, and while precipitation is good news for the area, we must remain vigilant,” said County Fire Chief Trevor Grant.
“We’re asking everyone to use their common sense to help keep our family, friends and neighbours safe.”
Burning currently is restricted to approved recreational fire pits, approved burn barrels and propane appliances.
The City of Grande Prairie fire ban remains active as of press time.
